The Brittany and Zeke Foundation, along with KnoxZine, is collecting new teddy bears to distribute to children in area hospitals during Christmas. Bears need to be collected by December 11. If you have a bear to donate please contact Debra at KnoxZine@gmail.com or call her at 865-659-8867.
This foundation was created in memory of Brittany Sherwood and her unborn child, Ezekiel, who were murdered on December 13, 2011. No arrests have been made in this case.
Brittany’s brother, Jeff Sherwood, says, “When my mother and I started The Brittany and Zeke Foundation our only purpose was to keep the memory of Brittany and Zeke alive. We began to find direction for our foundation when we decided that we wanted to help prevent this happening to other families. We decided to help the YWCA because of the great programs they have for women in need. It gives us comfort knowing that we are helping women who are battling all types of circumstances.
“I have the courage to get out of bed, because I know there are people out there who are depending on me. Whether it is through The Brittany and Zeke Foundation or my blog that I am helping people, I know that I am helping to make a difference in the life of someone. Finding various causes to pour myself into helps divert my attention away from the tragedy that I am experiencing and gives me the courage to attempt to live a fulfilling life.”
Brittany’s mother, Robin Owens, says, ” I still can’t believe that Brittany is no longer here, and that she is never coming back, and that is the one thing that is still so surreal. It is like a reliving a nightmare everyday.
“It is through The Brittany and Zeke Foundation that I throw all of my energy and zest to keep Brittany and Baby Zeke’s memory alive.
“We have done some great things that we are very proud to see come together such as a School Supply Project for Haiti, Clothing and Food Drive for the YWCA, a walk for Justice to end Domestic Violence to Pregnant Women, and currently a Teddy Bear Drive in Baby Zeke’s memory for East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.”
As you engage in your holiday shopping, please consider buying a new teddy bear in honor of Zeke. Remember, the due date to donate is December 11, 2013. If you would like to make a monetary donation to The Brittany and Zeke Foundation, please do so here.
